Library Board Minutes 9/9/19

Board of Trustees Regular Meeting September 9, 2019

Meeting called to order at 10:08 am. Present were Carlton McCaslin, John Pawlak, Joy Marshall, Janice Painter and Susan Wonderly.  Guests present were Amy Bruno, Mandy Cafeo and Alysha Wogee.

Public comment:  None

I.  CONSENT AGENDA

Adoption of Agenda/Consent of agenda: John made a motion to accept the agenda; Joy seconded and the motion carried. 
 
Acceptance of minutes of 8/12/19 meeting: Joy made a motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as written; Janice seconded and the motion carried. 

Treasurer’s Report: (attached) Susan presented the report. She noted that income seems down but that is due to a delay in the Treasurer’s Office getting recent tax payments posted, so it should catch up in time. John made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report; Janice seconded and the motion carried 

Reports/Discussions:

In-Service Day. Susan asked for Board approval to close the Library on Oct. 18 for the annual In-Service Day for employee training, etc. Joy made a motion to close the Library that day; Janice seconded and the motion carried.

Calendar update: The next regular meeting will be held Monday October 14, 2019, @ 10:00am. 

Librarian’s Report:(attached). Susan shared the info about her visit with John to Crystal; a new Little Library will be placed in the Crystal Park there, pending approval by Amargosa Valley Parks Dept. Ron (volunteer) has offered to build the Library.

Public Comment:  John reported that during his visit to Burning Man, the portable HotSpot worked well.  Susan said that the grandfather clock is to be installed in the coming week and that the donor would like a Board member present; John volunteered. The installation is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, 9/12.Carlton shared that the play he is in will be performed at the Treasures RV Park and that tickets are available at the Library (save $5). Ticket price includes dinner and the play.

Joy made a motion to adjourn the meeting; Janice seconded, and the motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 10:34 am.

Closed for Renovations

We will be closed from December 16th, until the renovations are complete in the Spring of 2025. You can check out digital e-books and audio books using the Libby app on digital devices. Kanopy, a new streaming service is available to watch for free. The Kanopy app can be downloaded to smart T.V.s, mobile devices and desktops. Learn a new language for free using the Rosette Stone database. All of these services require a library card. All fines for overdue items will be waived if they are checked out and due after our closing date. The drop box will be open on most days, but will be closed from time to time if work is being done in that room. We can’t wait to have a re-grand opening in the Spring!
